X-15 Desktop models

These are a few of the X-15 desktop models built by Retro Rocket.  These were done in 1/40th scale,  the same scale used by Topping Inc. for their X-15 desktop models.  The three shown on the wooden bases were built for a collector around 2014.  They used X-15 bodies built by Scott Lowther of Aerospace Projects Review.  Scott used Topping X-15’s and turned them into the X-15A-2 and X-15-A-3 versions. Retro Rocket finished them and had the wooden bases built to replicate a design used by North American Aviation for some of their desktop models.  The round bases on the other X-15’s also replicate the design used by NAA.

The X-15’s on the round NAA style bases reflect the advanced designed X-15’s.  One is the advanced delta winged X-15A-3, one is the A3 design with a Marquardt SERJ engine, and one is the A2 with the SERJ engine.  These are unique models built by Retro Rocket using accurate CAD data and 3D printed parts.  The only other X-15A-3 SERJ model we are aware of was built by Scott Lowther.  It’s not known how many were built but we have one example in our collection.
